We are thrilled to announce the publication of a pioneering research paper, "Highly efficient octave-spanning long-wavelength infrared generation with a 74% quantum efficiency in a χ(2) waveguide," in Nature Communications. This collaborative effort, led by Professor Houkun Liang from Sichuan University and co-authored by a team of accomplished researchers including DIEN TECH, marks a significant advancement in the field of mid-infrared (MIR) lasers and their applications. The study focuses on the realization of compact and efficient broadband mid-infrared lasers using ZGP crystals.



The team proposed and demonstrated a χ(2) micrometer waveguide platform based on birefringence phase matching for long-wavelength infrared (LWIR) laser generation with an unprecedented quantum conversion efficiency of 74%.

In a ZnGeP2-based waveguide platform, the research achieved an octave-spanning spectrum covering 5–11 μm through optical parametric generation (OPG), setting a new record in LWIR single-pass parametric processes.

The research underscores ZGP crystals as the material of choice for achieving highly efficient and compact mid-infrared lasers, addressing challenges associated with traditional MIR sources.

ZGP's exceptional characteristics, including high χ(2) nonlinearities and a broad MIR transparency window, position it as a cornerstone for advancements in nonlinear photonics.
